PARK OPERATIONS UPDATE The Park Operations Division staff (including Grounds, Trails, Urban Forestry, Cemetery, Park Improvements, Structures, Facilities, and Stewardship) are working diligently in our community to help with the transition from Fall into Winter. Another successful Summer is behind us, and we are looking forward to the new year ahead. Here's a handful of their most recent and notable accomplishments: • Completed construction of 1,000 feet of new custom-built fencing at Woodstock Farm to protect restoration areas. • Held nine (9) Park Volunteer Program events this fall, which comprised a total of 494 volunteers, 1,380 volunteer hours, and 2,000 plants/bulbs planted. • Installed Billy & George "Odd Jelly Out" sculptures at Harriet Spanel Park. • Updated fishing regulations and signage related to the Chinook Salmon run in Whatcom Creek. Conducted outreach with community members. • Completed improvements to Broadway Park including replacement of retaining walls, concrete sidewalk repairs, and a facelift to the restroom building. • Resurfaced 2 miles of trails with new limestone base. • Coordinated with other local arborists on control measures for Emerald Ash Borer. • Completed paving repairs, sidewalk install, and parking lot striping at Cornwall Memorial Park. • Scanned several hundred historical documents for the Bayview Cemetery. • Repaired stormwater drains and lines in the Lake Padden Golf Course parking lot. • Processed seven (7) donations which added park benches and trees to various parks. • Planted many new street trees and park trees. • Completed $1.4 million in concrete repairs, waterproofing, and locker room restoration at the Civic Stadium. • Procured new grounds maintenance equipment for Lake Padden Golf Course including a rough terrain mower, a sprayer unit, and a gator utility vehicle. • Installed new speed limit signage on the Taylor Dock over water walkway. • Installed a new irrigation pump at Squalicum Creek Park to improve irrigation. • Re-painted the exterior, updated electrical components, and replaced heating system in the Bloedel Boat Rental Building. • Installed a hydraulic lift and new roll-up garage doors for the Squalicum Creek Park Shop.
