Volunteer Program Parks Volunteer Program cob.org/parks • (360) 778-7000 17 COMMUNIT Y WORK PARTIES Get outside and give back this Fall at one of our weekly volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction while following all current safety protocols. You wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate for the weather, and bring a water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration is required. For more information and to register visit: VolunteerBellingham.org/need Scan QR code to learn more and get registered today! 9 am to noon 10 am to 1 pm NOVEMBER 2 – Memorial Park Join the Sunnyland Neighborhood Association and help plant bulbs and shrubs while removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry and restoring this fun park. 9 – Hundred Acre Wood Restore wildlife habitat and protect wetlands with us in this lovely park on the south side of Bellingham alongside our friends from the Whatcom Land Trust! 16 – Lake Padden/Galbraith Mtn. Trailhead Help plant native trees and shrubs near Bellingham's favorite new trailhead and recreation hub. 23 – Cordata Park Support riparian restoration efforts at one of Bellingham's newest parks by removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry and planting near East Bear Creek. DECEMBER 7 – Birchwood Park Help us with our mulching and planting efforts at beautiful Birchwood Park! 14 – Connelly Creek Nature Area (South) Join us and our friends from NSEA as we restore wildlife habitat and protect wetlands in this lovely park on the south side of Bellingham. 9 am to noon 9 am to noon The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program empowers our community to have the tools, knowledge and skills to care for, restore, and protect Bellingham's parks, trails and open spaces. SEPTEMBER 14 – Whatcom Creek by City Hall Join the Bellingham Kiwanis at our Whatcom Water Week work party to restore salmon habitat and clean up this well-loved trail. 21 – Harriet Spanel Park The York Neighborhood Association needs our help to remove weeds, spread mulch, and pick up litter. 28 – Broadway Park Remove invasive species, plant native shrubs, and help us spruce up one of Bellingham's oldest parks. OCTOBER 5 – Cornwall Memorial Park (North) Join us and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) as we plant trees and shrubs while removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry near Squalicum Creek in one of Bellingham's finest parks. 12 – Lowell Park Help us steward this darling green space near WWU. We'll get rid of invasive plants, add some native shrubs, and keep this park healthy and beautiful. 19 – Big Rock Garden Park Together we will clean sculptures and help maintain this peaceful park with the Friends of Big Rock Garden Park. 26 – Make A Difference Day Come help restore salmon habitat with The City and NSEA by planting native trees and shrubs at Whatcom Falls Park near Derby Pond!
