Facility Rental Info PARK OPERATIONS UPDATE With the shorter days and cooler weather, our park staff has transitioned over to completing several projects while continuing with ongoing maintenance, repairs, and improvements. Some of our top accomplishments include: • Repairing and re-opening of the footbridge in Arroyo Park. • Adding new picnic tables, BBQ grills, and benches at Memorial Park, and restoring the gateway archway; • Installing new kiosks at Rock Hill Park and Harriet Spanel Park with funding from the Mayor's Small & Simple Grant program; • Planting several new street trees and park trees; • Processing several donations, that added park benches, tables, and trees to various parks; • Coordinating with Public Works to complete the Little Squalicum Estuary Restoration to include new foot bridges and re-aligned trails; • Working with Sustainable Connections to install a new recycling station with food composting at the Fairhaven Village Green; • Building a new entrance gateway sign at Fairhaven Park; • Teaming up with Public Works to restore an area at the corner of Commercial and Young Streets, near City Hall with natural landscaping; • Coordinating the Make A Difference Day and Arbor Day at Whatcom Falls Park that attracted 191 volunteers who helped restore the area surrounding the old railroad trestle with 365 native trees and shrubs; • Giving the Clubhouse at the Lake Padden Golf Course a much-needed face-lift with new carpet, laminate plank flooring, and paint.
