Family/Community WINTER PLAYBOOK 2024 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 10 Contra Dancing for Everybody The Bellingham Contra dance community offers a series of free workshops to introduce and teach Contra dancing. Contra is a style of American folk dancing, performed to live music with a caller teaching each dance and calling out the various steps. No partner or experience necessary! At the completion of each free workshop, the regularly scheduled Contra dance takes place from 7:30-10:00 pm with a suggested donation of $12-$15 per person. Come dance and have a ball! Learn more at: bellinghamcountrydance.org DAY/DATES/THEMES: Session 1: Saturday / January 13: Fun and Easy Contra Dance Basics with Eric Curl Session 2: Saturday / February 10: Basic Steps and Flourishes with Maya Roe Session 3: Saturday / February 24: Beginner Basics (7:00-7:30 pm only) with Koren Wake Session 4: Saturday / March 9: Diversity of Basics Using Contra Dance moves in different formations including circles and squares with Joe Michaels Session 5: Saturday / March 30, Working on the Finer Points with Valerie Cohen (7:00-7:30 pm only) TIME: 6:30–7:30 pm unless noted AGES: 6 years and older LOCATION: Fairhaven Library Auditorium, enter through the back door COST: Workshops are Free (suggested $12-15 donation, $8 for students, to stay and attend regular dances) COORDINATOR: Bellingham Country Dance Society Therapeutic Movement and Meditation Having a rough week? Add in some time to reset with a relaxing, somatic self-exploration at an incredibly affordable price from a licensed therapist! We set an intention, discuss our intention, and use movement, meditation, and sound to explore our body's language of emotions. We will create a space to learn and practice emotional regulation skills. Wear something comfortable and bring a blanket and yoga mat. Sessions are hosted by practicing therapist, Layla Jasper, MSW, LSWAIC of Jasper Connections, PLLC. DAY/DATES: Tuesdays / Session 1: January 16 Session 2: February 13 Session 3: March 19 TIME: 6:00-7:30 pm AGES: 18 years and older LOCATION: Bloedel Donovan Community Building COST: $20 each session COORDINATORS: Rosa Caldwell/Layla Jasper MIN: 5 / MAX: 40 Puzzle Hustle Join us for a night of fun where teams of up to four people will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the same jigsaw puzzle — the three fastest teams win prizes! Pre-registration is required.
