Parks Volunteer Program FALL PLAYBOOK 2023 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 18 COMMUNIT Y WORK PARTIES Get outside and give back this Fall at one of our weekly volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction while following all current safety protocols. You wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate for the weather, and bring a water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration is required. For more information and to register visit: VolunteerBellingham.org/need Scan this QR code to learn more and get registered today! 9 am to noon 9 am to noon NOVEMBER 4 – Cordata Park Support riparian restoration efforts at one of Bellingham's newest parks by removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry and planting near East Bear Creek. 11 – Lake Padden/Galbraith Mtn. Trailhead Help plant native trees and shrubs near Bellingham's new favorite trailhead and recreation hub! 18 – Sunnyland Neighborhood Park Join Park Stewards Travis and Liz in helping us plant trees and shrubs while removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry to restore this fun park. DECEMBER 2 – Julianna Park Remove invasive species, plant native trees, and help us spruce up one of Bellingham's newest parks as we continue the legacy of Julianna Guy. 9 – Hundred Acre Wood Help restore wildlife habitat and protect wetlands in this lovely park on the south side of Bellingham. 16 – Squalicum Creek Park Help us out at Willow Spring by caring for new native plants at this impressive restoration site. 9 am to noon 9 am to noon SEPTEMBER 16 – Whatcom Creek by City Hall Join the Bellingham Kiwanis at our Whatcom Water Week work party to restore salmon habitat and clean up this well-loved trail. 23 – Birchwood Park Help us support Climate Action Week at Birchwood Park. We will be removing weeds, mulching and picking up litter to care for this great park. 30– Harriet Spanel Park Join Park Steward Mark and the York Neighborhood in removing weeds, mulching, and picking up litter to care for this awesome park. OCTOBER 7 – Broadway Park Remove invasive species, plant native shrubs, and help us spruce up one of Bellingham's oldest parks. 14 – Padden Creek Daylighting We will be working alongside the creek near 20th St. and Old Fairhaven Parkway to remove invasive species and reduce erosion into this salmon-bearing stream. 21 – Big Rock Garden Park Come clean sculptures and help maintain this peaceful park with the Friends of Big Rock Garden Park. 28 – Make A Difference Day Come help restore salmon habitat with the City and NSEA by planting native trees and shrubs at Whatcom Falls Park near Derby Pond! The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program empowers our community to have the tools, knowledge and skills to care for, restore, and protect Bellingham's parks, trails and open spaces.
