This event is truly a delight for the senses! Growers will be onsite showcasing the best of the best and share tips and tricks to growing these delicate beauties too. DAYS/DATES: Saturday–Sunday, Sept. 9–10 TIME: Sat 12:00–5:00 pm, Sun 10:00 am–4:00 pm AGES: All LOCATION: Bloedel Donovan Community Building COST: Free COORDINATOR: Whatcom County Dahlia Society Fall Contra Dancing for Everybody The Bellingham Contra Dance community is offering a series of free workshops to introduce and teach Contra dancing and calling. Contra is a style of American folk dancing, performed to live music with a caller teaching each dance and calling out the various steps. Although the dances are done in pairs standing in long lines, no partner is necessary to participate. At the completion of each free workshop, the regularly scheduled Contra dance will then take place from 7:30-10:00 pm. Come dance, come call, come have a ball! Masks optional. Learn more at: bellinghamcountrydance.org DAY/DATES/THEMES: Session 1: Saturday, Sept. 9: Amy Carroll, a seasoned family dance caller, will teach the basic steps suitable for all ages and get the family moving together to fun and easy traditional American party dances. Session 2: Saturday, Sept. 30: Maureen Collier will introduce Contra Dance basic steps and most common dance figures. Session 3: Saturday, Oct. 14: Learn basic social waltzes and waltz variations with Laura Me' Smith. Session 4: Saturday, Oct. 28: Suzanne Girardot will teach participants how to call easy party and square dances. Session 5: Saturday, Dec. 9: Try calling the shots! Alex McLeod will introduce the art of calling Contra Dances. TIME: 6:15–7:15 pm AGES: Sept. 9 all ages; other dates 15 years and older LOCATION: Fairhaven Library Auditorium, enter through rear door COST: Workshops are free! (Suggested donation of $12-$15 for regular dance following workshops.)
