FALL PLAYBOOK 2023 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION Facility Rental Info 24 FALL PLAYBOOK 2023 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION Facility Rental Info 24 PARK OPERATIONS UPDATE It's been a busy Spring and Summer for the Park Operations Division! Staff have been working on several important projects in addition to the regular routine maintenance of grounds, facilities, trails, urban trees, and Bayview Cemetery: • In June, we officially opened our second disc golf course which was designed and installed at the Lake Padden Golf Course. Open play and tee times are available on Sundays and Mondays after 4:30 pm. • Improvements were completed at the Bloedel-Donovan Park volleyball courts. • Work continues at the new King Mt, Community Garden located at Van Wyck Neighborhood park property. Staff have re-activated a well, built two sheds, installed fencing, a new gate, and installed irrigation lines for 60 garden plots. This community garden will be fully activated in Spring of 2024. • The Trails Crew resurfaced several miles of gravel trail and installed concrete steps. • The Structures crew completed a much-needed remodel of the restrooms located at the North Cornwall Picnic Shelter installing new wall panels, heaters/ ventilation, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and doors. • Several paving repairs and re-striping were completed at Birchwood, Lake Padden, Whatcom Falls, Fairhaven, and Sehome Hill Arboretum Drive. • Two new Columbarium Niche walls were installed at Bayview Cemetery. • The Structures crew installed a plinth and plaque commemorating Bellingham's survey monument history. • A new basketball hoop and interpretive panel was installed at Rock Hill Park, and we replaced/upgraded a second basketball hoop at Highland Heights Park. • Lastly, our Park Ambassador Team has been very busy this Summer working in our parks to encourage compliance with park regulations. They have also assisted with reservations at the Depot Market Square and Woodstock Farm along with supporting several events, park programming, and public outreach. Park Highlights
