Join us for an exploration of the history of Sikh and other immi- grants from India (commonly called "Hindus" at the time) who first arrived in Washington State and British Columbia in the early 1900s. Learn about the first students from India in Bellingham, and the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on citizenship of Asians, and more. Join the Good Time Girls for a night about Dirty Dan, the Fairhaven man. Fairhaven, now Bellingham's "south side" was once its own town, named by Daniel Jefferson Harris, aka "Dirty Dan." Fairhaven retains its own identity and spirit, celebrated in the annual Dirty Dan Festival, in honor of its colorful founding father. Unable to gather in person this year – to race pianos, toss fish and eat chili – we will continue the celebration from the safety of our couches! A Good Time Girl guide will present a live Zoom presentation showcasing the life, times and legacy of Fairhaven founder Dirty Dan. We encourage you to order up some grub and drinks from a Fairhaven establishment and make a night of it! Founded in 1887 when the town of Whatcom purchased a 10-acre plot along the road to Lake Whatcom, Bayview Cemetery is the only remaining cemetery in Bellingham. You will learn how it has grown and discover some of the history of its most interesting monuments. Question and answer session included!
