TRAVELOGUE SERIES Come and enjoy an armchair journey to a variety of spectacular and interesting places. Local travelers will share their images and their stories as part of this new Travelogue Series. No need to register - just bring your curiosity. We'll supply coffee, tea and goodies. Co-sponsored by Whatcom Museum. FALL SCHEDULE: Sept 18—"VIVA CUBA!" by Heather Haugland Oct 2—"Singing and Exploring from Slovakia to Amsterdam" by Amy Wimmer Oct16—"The Galapagos!" by Marie Eaton Nov 6—"Slot Canyons and Other Hikes in Southwest Utah" by George and Maryan Gleason Nov 20—"Colombia, Much More than Coffee" by Susan Spiegel DAY/TIME: Thursdays, 7–9 p.m. LOCATION: Whatcom Museum Rotunda Room COST: Free, $3 donation suggested COORDINATOR: Amanda Grove MIDDLE SCHOOL OPEN SWIM Bellingham Parks and Recreation is hosting an open swim for teens. Slide, swim, soak, splash around, dive, play water polo, hang out with friends. We provide a safe and supervised setting for middle school youth to spend their Friday night. DAYS/DATES: Fridays, Sept 19, 26, Oct 3, 17, 24, Nov 7, 14, 21, Dec 5, 12, 19 TIME: 9–10:30 p.m. LOCATION: Arne Hanna Aquatic Center COST: FREE AGES: Open to middle school age youth CELEBRATE BELLINGHAM'S ARBOR DAY AT ELIZABETH PARK! Highlights include: 10:30—Tree Identification Tours 12:00—Mayor Linville Arbor Day Proclamation 12:30—Youth Tree Climb* • "Ask the Arborist" • Activities for kids *Kids will get to climb a selected tree in the park under the guidance of the city Arborist and other professional climbers. If you have a bicycle helmet that fits bring it along. We will provide a helmet, harness and rope. Parent must be present to sign a liability release form. DATE: Saturday, October 4 TIMES: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. COST: FREE! LOCATION: Elizabeth Park PUMPKIN PATCH IN THE POOL Pick your pumpkin from our patch in the pool. Friends have donated a patch of pumpkins for us to throw in the pool and they float! Swim around and pick the pumpkin that suits your fancy. Also take time out to enjoy treats, games and water safety activities.
