PARK OPERATIONS UPDATE The Park Operations staff have been busy and excelled on amazing work and projects over the past few months. The dedicated members of our Grounds, Facilities, Structures & Utilities, Cemetery, Trails, Park Improvements, Urban Forestry, and Stewardship teams will now transition and prepare for the cold, wet, and stormy season ahead. Some recent notable accomplishments include: • Replaced deteriorated water line serving the Lake Padden Dog Park restroom • Participated in planning and execution of Make a Difference Day and Arbor Day Community Work Party with 184 Volunteers resulting in 202 native trees and shrubs being planted to restore the Whatcom Creek riparian corridor in Whatcom Falls Park • Completed drainage improvements at the Fairhaven Park Playground • Replaced and upgraded all lighting at Roosevelt Park to LED • Completed interior and exterior restoration at the Bayview Cemetery Mausoleum • Opened two new sections to full casket burials at Bayview Cemetery • Installed new wood and wire fencing at the Mayflower Pedestrian Bridge • Provided support for the Bloedel Donovan Park Playground Replacement project • Purchased new parking lot line stripping machine and trained staff to operate saving our budget for other critical maintenance work • Completed electrical and structural repairs to Elizabeth Park fountain • Replaced damaged slide at Aquatic Center/Civic Complex Playground • Restored landscaping and planted several new trees at Lee Memorial Park • Completed Cornwall Memorial Park Sports Court Conversion project expanding courts for pickleball while also improving the tennis court • Worked with donor to restore Memorial Salmon Bench at the Derby Pond • Completed structural repairs to the boardwalk stairs and landing at Maritime Heritage Park • Repaired/replaced damaged railings on bridges at Sunset Pond and Arroyo Park • Completed Fall aerification, fertilization, and re-seeding throughout all parks • Replaced roof on Driving Range Shelter at Lake Padden Golf Course • Completed 1,225 LF of golf cart path paving repairs at the Lake Padden Golf Course • Completed parking lot and trail repaving at Cornwall Memorial and Lake Padden Parks • Completed several planting bed renovations in several parks to improve park safety and visibility • Assisted Public Works staff with Street Tree Renovation and Replanting along Lakeway Boulevard • Completed energy efficiency upgrades to electrical and HVAC controls in utility spaces parks-wide (occupancy sensors) Facility Rental Info Park Highlights WINTER PLAYBOOK 2026 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 22
