COMMUNITY WORK PARTIES "The word ecology is derived from the Greek oikos, the word for home." – Robin Wall Kimmerer Get outside and give back this winter at one of our weekly volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction while following all current safety protocols. You wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate for the weather, and bring a full water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration required. More information/registration: volunteerbellingham.org/need 9 am to noon 9 am to noon MARCH 7 – Native Plant Nursery Join the fun as we pot hundreds of bare root trees and shrubs! Choose to volunteer in the morning (9 am to noon), afternoon (1 to 3 pm), or both. 14 – Native Plant Nursery Learn about our new native plants while potting the final batch of new bare root trees and shrubs! Morning (9 am to noon), afternoon (1 to 3 pm), or both. Join us! 21 – Whatcom Creek at Mayflower Bridge Support our urban creek and trail stewardship efforts by weeding and mulching near the Mayflower Bridge and WeGrow Garden! 28 – Lowell Park Help us steward this darling green space near WWU. We'll get rid of invasive plants, add new native shrubs, and work to keep this park healthy and beautiful. APRIL 4 – Forest and Cedar Park Join forces with L.E.A.D. and Western Washington University student volunteers to combat pesky invasive weeds and plant new native shrubs and trees in this wonderful park! 11 – Samish Crest Trail Help us enhance the trailside habitat in the stunning Samish Crest Open Space—join us in making this special place thrive. 18 – Happy Valley Park Connelly Creek, which runs through this neighborhood park, needs our help! We'll remove harmful invasive vegetation and spread mulch. 10 am to 1 pm 9 am to noon Visit cob.org/parkvolunteer JANUARY 10 – East Meadow Park Help us improve wildlife habitat within the Samish Neighborhood by weeding and mulching. 17 – MLK, Jr. Day of Service Community Work Party Find details regarding hours (11 am to 2 pm) and other important information on the previous page. 24 – Fairhaven Park Outdoor Classroom Spend your Saturday helping us steward the Outdoor Classroom and Native Plant Garden! We'll remove pesky weeds and plant native plants. 31 – Harriet Spanel Park This park in the York Neighborhood near the Loving Space School needs some love. Help us remove weeds and spread mulch to revitalize the space. FEBRUARY 7 – Lake Padden/Galbraith Mtn. Trailhead Plant native trees and shrubs with us near Bellingham's favorite new trailhead and recreation hub. 14 – Julianna Park Help restore a beloved park alongside our NSEA friends by removing invasive species, planting native trees, and continuing Julianna Guy's legacy, namesake of this park. 21 – Cornwall Park The forest understory in one of Bellingham's oldest parks needs some help. Work with us to protect and restore this critically important habitat by planting trees and shrubs! 28 – Hundred Acre Wood Join us for National Invasive Species Awareness Week as we restore wildlife habitat and protect wetlands in this serene forest on Bellingham's south side.
