Family/Community www.cob.org/parks • (360) 778-7000 21 EARTH DAY COMMUNITY WORK PARTIES & MORE Restore Our Earth Join the more than 1 billion people worldwide that are celebrating this year's global Earth Day theme of "Restore Our Earth" by participating in one of our community-led work parties taking place throughout Bellingham on April 22, 23 and 24. This year, we have many options available for you to give back to our community in your own backyard, neighborhood, or local park to help restore our natural areas and make our communities healthier for all! Volunteers will remove invasive species, spread mulch, and more to improve habitat and water quality. To learn more and to register, visit: cob.org/earthday2021. Group size is limited and pre-registration is required. Register early! PARKS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM EARTH DAY Work Parties Join one of our Park Steward-led work parties in celebration of Earth Day. Times vary, and locations vary. See our website for our full list of opportunities. Thursday, April 22: 9am-12pm, 1-4pm, 5-7pm Friday, April 23: 9am-12pm, 1-4pm, 5-7pm Saturday, April 24: 9am-12pm Masks required and COVID safety guidelines must be followed. Tools, gloves, and direction provided. No previous volunteer experience necessary. All ages welcome. Stewardship in Your Backyard If you can't join a work party, you can still be a part of the global effort to "Restore Our Earth" for Earth Day by creating wildlife habitat in your own backyard or neighborhood with advice from City experts. Enhancing habitat attracts birds, butterflies, and other pollinators, beautifies our neighborhoods, and improves air and water quality, which benefits everyone in our community. Visit our Backyard Habitat Restoration website for tips and ideas on how to remove invasive species, plant native trees and shrubs, and improve soil and water quality, all while having fun with your family and neighbors. cob.org/backyard-habitat Fall 2021 Native Plant Stewardship Course WHAT: This no-cost course combines classroom learning with field trips to enrich understanding of native plants, their key roles, and how to restore habitats. In return, participants agree to provide 30 hours of service to local restoration projects. WHEN: 6-week program meets Thursday evenings from Aug. 19 through Sept. 23 from 6 – 8:30 pm and on full-day Saturday field trips Aug. 28, Sept. 11, and Sept. 18. WHO: Anyone can apply! Participants must be members of the Washington Native Plant Society. Joining is easy and inexpensive.
