Family/Community WINTER PLAYBOOK 2021 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 12 COMMUNITY WORK PARTIES The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program empowers our community to have the tools, knowledge, and skills to care for, restore, and protect Bellingham's parks, trails, and open spaces. www.cob.org/parkvolunteer Photo by Amy Brown JANUARY 18 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrate King's legacy of service by joining one of our Park Steward-led micro-work parties taking place throughout the city! Or, take on a project in your own backyard! 30 – Little Squalicum Park Support Squalicum Creek restoration by removing invasive vegetation to help salmon. 9 am to noon. FEBRUARY 6 – East Meadow Join us at this beautiful pocket of nature in the Samish neighborhood for a morning of stewardship. 9 am to noon. 13 – Harriet Spanel Help give this special York neighborhood park some love as we work to clean it up. 9 am to noon. 20 – Fairhaven Park This ongoing project will focus on removing invasive English Ivy and planting natives along Padden Creek. 9 am to noon. 27 – 16th St. Trail We have many plants to install and care for at the 16th St. Trail with Park Steward Ray! 9 am to noon. MARCH 6 – Cornwall Park (south) Help us restore Cornwall Park's beautiful and stately forest as we care for native plantings. 9 am to noon. 13 – Parks Native Plant Nursery We have hundreds of bare root trees and shrubs to pot. Join us for the morning (9 am to noon), afternoon (1 to 3 pm), or both! 20 – Parks Native Plant Nursery We're back at it! We have hundreds of bare root trees and shrubs to pot. Join us for the morning (9 am to noon), afternoon (1 to 3 pm), or both! 27 – Connelly Creek Nature Area Come help restore salmon habitat in this special park in the heart of Happy Valley! 9 am to noon. APRIL 3 – Julianna Park Julianna is one of Bellingham's newest parks and is a hidden gem. We'll be removing invasive plants and sprucing up the park. 9 am to noon. 10 – Squalicum Creek Park Help enhance Willow Spring by caring for native plant- ings in this impressive restoration area. 9 am to noon. Get outside and give back this winter and spring with the Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program. Join us at one of our weekly small-scale events as we restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction. You wear your mask, sturdy shoes, and layers appropriate for the weather and bring a water bottle and snack. All ages welcome.
