COMMUNITY WORK PARTIES "Now I see the secret of making the best person: it is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth." – Walt Whitman Get outside and give back this spring and summer at one of our volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, instructions and free Woods Coffee. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate for the weather, and bring a full water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration required. More info/registration: www.volunteerbellingham.org/need 9 am to noon 9 am to noon MAY…continued 30 – Sehome Hill Arboretum Help us restore trailside habitat near the southern entrance to the Arb as we celebrate Arboretum Day with the WWU Ecological Restoration Club and other friends! JUNE 6 – Lower Padden Creek Trail Join us and our friends from NSEA for National Trails Day as we work to protect Padden Creek by removing trailside invasive English Ivy. 13 – Cordata Park Team up with us and NSEA volunteers to weed and mulch near Bear Creek, enhancing this important riparian habitat! 20 – Juneteenth weekend No City Parks work party. Learn more about this significant day at cob.org/juneteenth 27 – Cornwall Rose Garden We'll weed and mulch (and stop to smell the roses!) during peak bloom! 9 am to noon 9 am to noon Visit cob.org/parkvolunteer APRIL 4 – Forest and Cedar Park Join forces with WWU L.E.A.D. and Western Washington student volunteers to combat pesky invasive weeds and plant new native shrubs and trees in this wonderful park. 11 – Samish Crest Trail Spend the morning enhancing the natural beauty of Samish Crest Open Space with us! 18 – Happy Valley Park Steward serene trailside habitat with us at this small park as we remove invasive vegetation and spread mulch. 25 – Earth Day at Squalicum Park Re-Route *10 a.m. to 1 p.m.* Celebrate Earth Day with the City, NSEA, and friends as we restore habitat at the Squalicum Creek Re-route restoration project. MAY 2 – Big Rock Garden Park Join us and the Friends of Big Rock Garden for some spring cleanup on National Garden Meditation Day! 9 – Memorial Park Volunteer alongside the Bellingham Rotary Club to clean up the memorials and park grounds for Memorial Day weekend. 16 – Rock Hill Park This hidden park in the York Neighborhood needs some love. We'll be removing invasive vegetation and beautifying the butterfly garden! 23 – Memorial Day weekend No City Parks work party. Enjoy Ski to Sea and the Memorial Day Parade!
