cob.org/parks • (360) 778-7000 Family/Community Events 17 Parks Volunteer Program COMMUNIT Y WORK PARTIES Get outside and give back this Fall at one of our weekly volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction while following all current safety protocols. Please arrive wearing sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and bring a full water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration is required. For more information and to register visit: VolunteerBellingham.org/need "When we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves." – David Orr 9 am to noon 9 am to noon NOVEMBER 5 – Maritime Heritage Park Join us as we improve salmon habitat with the City, NSEA, and WA Native Plant Society at this special restoration site in the heart of downtown. 12 – Big Rock Garden Park Come clean sculptures and help maintain this peaceful park with Friends of Big Rock Garden. 19 – Railroad Trail at Vining & View Ridge Join Park Steward Richard in helping us plant native trees while removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry to restore this amazing trail. DECEMBER 3 – Cornwall Park (north) In partnership with NSEA, we will be working along the creek in the north end of the park to remove invasive species. 10 – Connelly Creek Nature Area (south) Help NSEA restore wildlife habitat in this lovely park on the south side of Bellingham. 17 – Harriet Spanel Park Join Park Steward Mark and the York Neighborhood Association in removing weeds, planting, mulching, and picking up litter to care for this awesome park. 9 am to noon 9 am to noon SEPTEMBER 10 – Whatcom Creek by City Hall Join the Bellingham Kiwanis at our Whatcom Water Week work party to restore salmon habitat and clean up this well-loved trail. 24 – Squalicum Creek Park Support Climate Action Week at Willow Spring by caring for new native plants at this impressive restoration site. OCTOBER 1 – Julianna Park Remove invasive species, plant native trees, and help us spruce up one of Bellingham's newest parks. 8 – Arroyo Park We will be working with NSEA to remove invasive species and reduce erosion into Chuckanut Creek. 15 – West Cemetery Creek Join us as we work to improve water quality and fish habitat in this newly restored creek. 22 – Make A Difference Day Come help restore salmon habitat with the City, WMTP and NSEA by planting native trees and shrubs at Whatcom Falls Park near Derby Pond! 29 – Sehome Arboretum The Arboretum is being eaten alive by invasive English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry! Come help save this stately forest with us and WWU's LEAD. The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program empowers our community to have the tools, knowledge and skills to care for, restore, and protect Bellingham's parks, trails and open spaces.
