Summer is winding down, the leaves are starting to turn, the blackberries are out, but the sunshine lingers. This summer has been so beautiful. I hope you all enjoyed those warm rays that bless us with their presence for such a terribly short time. For parks, we talk about how lucky we are that the hot weather is fleeting because although it is so gorgeous in the summer, it is an extremely busy and rather stressful time for our very hard-working staff! Contemplating the return to fall, school and the cooler days ahead, I sought help from my extended family on our summer vacation to contribute their thoughts about parks in the fall. Here are some of their comments: "The fall color is wonderful while walking your dog in the colored leaves." "I like climbing on the monkey bars with my scarf wrapped tightly around my neck." "Sliding down the cold plastic slide is awesome!" "Walking in the park in the fall for me is a burgundy delight of falling leaves." "I like to see my breath in the air — it makes me happy." "The beautiful wind blowing in the air makes my heart warm but my skin freeze." "My brain feels fried just thinking about school." "Spiderwebs everywhere!" "The dew. I love walking through the dew-filled grass and having my feet get wet. That's when you know fall is here." One last thing, the master plan for the Hundred Acre Wood (Chuckanut Community Forest) went to City Council on August 29th for a public hearing. Take a look at the project website and send in any comments you might have! Go to: cob.org/project/chuckanut- community-forest-master-plan. Happy Fall! Nicole C.
