WINTER PLAYBOOK 2021 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION Adaptive 22 Marcia Wazny Rides Off Into The Sunset After 34 years of providing outstanding public service with Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department, our Park Facilities Manager Marcia Wazny is retiring! Marcia graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor's Degree and started her career as a Park Worker on the turf maintenance crew in 1986. She was promoted to Park Technician in 1992 and then worked as a Park Specialist utilizing her expertise and training in turf maintenance and irrigation. In 1995, Marcia graduated from the Pacific Northwest Maintenance Management School and later served on their Board of Regents as instructor for city, county, state, and provincial park professionals from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. In addition, Marcia has continued her professional growth by seeking out training to expand her skill set and work knowledge by achieving certifications as Master Gardener, ISA Arborist, Landscape Irrigation Auditor, and Playground Safety Auditor. In 2002, Marcia took on the role of Enterprise Coordinator for the Bayview Cemetery and Lake Padden Golf Course, in addition to serving as the Cemetery Sexton. She was instrumental in completing repair projects at the Golf Course, promoting the history of Bayview, and getting a new scatter garden designed and built in 2018. For the last two years, Marcia has worked as the Park Facilities Manager taking on a heavy workload of leading staff and managing a variety of park maintenance and construction projects to improve our park system. She also participated in the transition from paper tracking to the electronic Cityworks Maintenance Management System in 2019. Her quick wit and diversified expertise in the building trades and grounds maintenance will be missed. We wish her continued happiness and good health in the adventures that lie ahead!
