8 fall 2016 leisure guide 360-778-7000 ADAPTED AQUATICS Adapted Aquatic is a time for individuals, 3 years or older, with special needs to get in the water and work one-on-one with a volunteer pool buddy for one hour. Volunteers will be working with participants toward increasing flexibility, exercising and having fun. EZ REG: Internet registration available at https://apm. activecommunities.com/bellingham AGES: 3 years and older DAY/DATES: Session 1 — Tuesdays, Oct 4–25 Wednesdays, Oct 5–26 Thursdays, Oct 6–27 Session 2 — Tuesdays, Nov 1–29 (No class Nov 22) Wednesdays, Nov 2–30 (No class Nov 23) Thursdays, Nov 3–Dec 1 (No class Nov 24) TIME: 4:45-5:45pm LOCATION: Arne Hanna Aquatic Center COST: $22 residents or $24 non-resident MAX HIGBEE CENTER Max Higbee Center provides community-based recreation programs for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. All programs aim to create opportunities for people to socialize, achieve greater independence and involvement in the community, improve health, explore new activities, and find personal enjoyment and enrichment. COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM (CAP) – This program supports people in community outings to help participants achieve greater independence, learn and practice life skills like using the bus, and engage in activities like cooking classes, gardening, going to the library, and visiting museums. When: Monday–Friday, 2:30–5:30pm Cost: $8 per program WEEKEND DROP-IN PROGRAM – A flexible program designed for people to have a fun, safe and welcoming place to spend weekend evenings among friends and participating in activities like martial art classes, attending theater performances, crafts, and karaoke. When: Fridays & Saturdays, 5–9pm Cost: $6/night or $30/month 365 FITNESS PROGRAM – This program supports people in building active and healthy lifestyles through nutrition workshops, goal setting, and exercise. Activities include bowling, swimming, dancing, yoga, visiting the YMCA, trail walks, and more! When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10am–2pm Cost: $10/day DAYTIME PROGRAM – A creative program that blends specialized, in-house activities and community excursions. This program focuses on allowing people to engage and participate at their own pace. When: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays, 10am–2pm Cost: $10 per program HIGBEE HIKERS – A seasonal, summer program that explores local trails on bus lines and teaches environmental stewardship, native plant and animal identification, survival skills, and hiking goals and games. When: Saturdays, 11am–5pm Cost: $15 per program RECREATION MENTOR PROGRAM – This is an individualized, one-on-one program that offers an opportunity for people to create personalized recreation goals and participate in activities with full support from a Recreation Leader. When: Flexible scheduling Cost: $15/hour
