Grab your favorite pet and join us for our inaugural pet parade. Here's your chance to strut your stuff throughout the park and be judged for Best Dressed Pet, Best Float or Wagon and Most Unusual Pet. There will be great prizes for everyone! In addition, agencies associated with pets including area pet stores, veterinarian offices, the humane societies and many more will also be on hand today. Please note: All pets MUST be leashed and/or contained at all times. Space is limited to the first 100 entries. Preregistration is encouraged. Suggested donation of one item of pet food to be given to the local humane societies and rescue organizations. COORDINATOR: Lauren Woodmansee MAX: 100 pets SQUALICUM CREEK PARK OPENING Join us in the fun-filled opening of Squalicum Creek Park. Activities for the entire family include games, fun run/walk, refreshments, dedication, bike area, playground, basketball, dog activities, and more. Complete schedule available by June 15. All activities are free! DAY/DATE Saturday, July 11 TIME: 10am–2pm LOCATION: Squalicum Creek Park, 1001 Squalicum Way CORNWALL ROSE GARDEN TOUR Want to know what roses and wine have in common? Are roses difficult to grow in our region? What is the fascinating story of the "Peace" rose or NASA's rose research in low-gravity? What is a rose's name? Take a tour of the Cornwall Rose Garden and learn about the many varieties of roses at the park. "Z" Gregory will lead the walk. She is a life-long gardener, rose enthusiast, volunteer with WSU Whatcom Master Gardener Program and has been a Park Steward for Cornwall Rose Garden since 2006. Bring your questions, camera, and curiosity! Please carpool, bike, bus or walk to the garden, as parking is limited. Volunteer Program at 778-7105. DAY/DATES: Saturdays, July 11 & 18 TIMES: 10–11am LOCATION: Cornwall Rose Garden, corner of E. Illinois & Cornwall Streets COST: Free GET A CLUE, BELLINGHAM: a hysterical, historical scavenger hunt! Teams of 2 to 6 players will utilize all of their skills and abilities to solve a challenging series of clues leading them on an exciting Scavenger Hunt through historic Old Town. Each team will receive a packet of clues and map at the start of the hunt that will range from very easy to moderately difficult hints. Teams will then venture to various locations and once there answer a question about each location, collect an item or take a picture proving that they've found it. Team members will need a great attitude, a keen eye, a sharp mind and ONE DIGITAL CAMERA OR SMART PHONE per team. At the end of the hunt points will be given for each correct answer, tallied and then combined with the elapsed time to determine winners. Prizes will be given to the winning teams as well as some special categories including Best Costumed and Best Themed Teams. Dress appropriately ... this fun event will go rain or shine!
