FALL PLAYBOOK 2026 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION Facility Rental Info 22 PARK OPERATIONS UPDATE Happy Fall everyone! The Park Operations staff have been working hard over the past few months and are looking forward to the cooler weather ahead. Below is a short list of our accomplishments over the late-spring and summer months: • Installed new siding and sidewalks, and completed roof repair at Cornwall Memorial Park south restroom • Completed paving overlays at Cornwall Memorial Park, Lake Padden Park, and Bayview Cemetery • Reopened Park Steward Program by accepting applications; annual application window will be open June 1 – July 31 • Installed a community bulletin board at Roosevelt Park • Provided Memorial Day services to honor veterans at the Bayview Cemetery • Refreshed the beach and volleyball courts with new sand at Bloedel Donovan Park • Completed new mulch trail leading hikers and walkers from the Lake Padden Loop Trail to the Coyote Grill located at the Lake Padden Golf Course • Migrated Cemetery enterprise management system (Nexus) to the cloud to improve public interface and streamline administrative workflow • Added gravel and removed timbers on the trail located above Squalicum Creek Park • Replanted several new street trees located in empty tree wells across the city • Completed topdressing of turf at Bloedel Donovan to improve drainage • Completed irrigation repairs at Squalicum Creek Park and Roosevelt Park • Started construction of connector trail from W. Maryland to W. Illinois • Improved the trail at Upper Whatcom Falls Park for pedestrian and ADA access • Completed hazard mitigation work on several large landmark trees at Elizabeth Park • Completed energy efficiency lighting upgrades to several restroom buildings • Replaced controls and pump for Maritime Heritage Park fountain • Experimented with using an environmentally friendly mixture of 20% vinegar to treat weeds in shrub beds and tree wells • Injected 300 Ash street trees to prevent infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer • Completed stormwater improvements at the Civic Complex and Bayview Cemetery Facility Rental Info Park Highlights FALL PLAYBOOK 2026 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 22
