Parks Volunteer Program FALL PLAYBOOK 2026 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 16 MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY & ARBOR DAY COMMUNITY WORK PARTY Stewardship in Your Backyard If you can't join our work party, you can still be a part of this national day of helping others by creating wildlife habitat in your own backyard or neighborhood. Enhancing habitat attracts birds, butterflies, and other pollinators, beautifies our neighborhoods, and improves air and water quality, which benefits everyone in our community. Visit our Backyard Habitat Restoration and Manage Weeds Naturally webpages for tips and ideas on how you can safely remove invasive species, plant native trees and shrubs, and improve soil and water quality, all while having fun with your family and neighbors. These resources were compiled by City biologists and weed management experts to help your backyard stewardship efforts succeed. cob.org/backyard-habitat and cob.org/weeds Join the City of Bellingham and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) as we care for a beloved local park at our annual Make a Difference Day and Arbor Day community work party. Join us at: Cornwall Memorial Park Saturday, November 7th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Together, we will plant native trees and shrubs and remove invasive weeds near Squalicum Creek to improve water quality, recover downstream salmon habitat, and restore our forests and understory habitat for wildlife. All ages and abilities are welcome. No previous volunteer experience is necessary. Tools, gloves, instructions, coffee, snacks, and free bike valet are provided. Space in this work party is limited!
