Family/Community SPRING/SUMMER PLAYBOOK 2024 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 14 Intro to Scottish Country Dancing Workshops Scottish Country Dancing is the social dancing of Scotland without any of the competitive aspects of Highland dancing. It has a long, interesting history and is one of the root influences for US folk dancing. Every- one is welcome to come learn the basics at these free workshops and enjoy the lively and traditional music of Scotland. No need for a partner or special shoes (dance slippers or flat soled shoes are recommended). Come to one or all! Learn more details at: bellinghamscd.org or facebook.com/bellinghamscd Open Roller Skate Throw on your roller skates or roller blades and free skate with us the second Friday of the month! Bring your own skates; helmets and pads (elbow, knee, and wrist) recommended. DAY/DATES/THEME: Session 1: Wednesday, April 3: Moving to the Music: Learn basic steps & movements. Session 2: Wednesday, May 1: The Shape of the Set: Learn different dance shapes including longwise sets, circles, square sets and round the room. Session 3: Wednesday, June 5: Figuring out the Figures: Learn basic figures that make up various dances like puzzle pieces or building blocks. TIME: 7:30–8:30 pm AGES: 12 years and older LOCATION: Fairhaven Library Auditorium (enter through back door) COST: FREE COORDINATOR: Bellingham Scottish Country Dancers DAY/DATES: Fridays, April 12 & May 10 (Break for summer but back in September!) TIME: 6:00–8:00 pm AGES: All ages LOCATION: Depot Market Square COST: FREE COORDINATOR: Rosa Caldwell/Whatcom Roller Skaters Sound Therapy Bring a blanket and yoga mat and enjoy the soothing sound vibrations of Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, and bells for deep relaxation. Sessions are hosted by either Everitt Allen of Sound Therapy of the Pacific Northwest, Kristi Moseley of Mystic Heart, or Ruby Koa of Inspire Studio. Pre-registration is required.
