Volunteer Program Parks Volunteer Program cob.org/parks • (360) 778-7000 17 COMMUNIT Y WORK PARTIES Get outside and give back this Winter at one of our weekly volunteer work parties. We will restore wildlife habitat, maintain trails, pick up litter, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, learn new skills, and (of course) have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction while following all current safety protocols. You wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate for the weather, and bring a water bottle and snack. All ages and abilities welcome. Pre-registration is required. Choose morning (9 am to noon), afternoon (1-3 pm), or both! 9 – Parks Native Plant Nursery Learn about our new native plants with us as we put our final few hundreds of bare root trees and shrubs into pots! Choose morning (9 a.m. -12 p.m.), afternoon (1-3 p.m.), or both. 16 – Sehome Arboretum Come restore trailside habitat in this beloved gem of a forest near Western Washington University! 23 – Cornwall Park (North) Join us and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association as we plant trees and shrubs while removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry near Squalicum Creek at one of Bellingham's oldest parks. 30 – Hundred Acre Wood Help restore wildlife habitat and protect wetlands in this peaceful park on the south side of Bellingham. APRIL 6 – Samish Crest Trail Improve trailside habitat within the beautiful Samish Crest Open Space with us. 13 – Birchwood Park Help us restore some habitat at this fun park by removing invasive species and spreading mulch. 10 am to 1 pm 9 am to noon JANUARY 13 – MLK Day at Squalicum Creek Celebrate Dr. King's legacy of service by helping to restore habitat at the Squalicum Creek Re-route restoration project with the City, Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA), and others! 20 – East Meadow Park Improve the habitat of this Samish Neighborhood park with us by removing invasive plants. 27– Sunnyland Neighborhood Park We'll weed, mulch, and plant to beautify this amazing little park. Join us! FEBRUARY 3 – Lowell Park Help us steward this darling green space near Western Washington University. We'll get rid of invasive plants and add some native shrubs to keep this park healthy and beautiful. 10 – Forest & Cedar Park Let's team up with L.E.A.D. and other Western Washington University volunteers to tackle removing some invasive plants while planting new native shrubs and trees in this wonderful park. 17 – Cordata Park Support the City and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association in our riparian restoration efforts near East Bear Creek at one of Bellingham's newest parks. 24 – Lake Padden/Galbraith Mtn Trailhead Help plant native trees and shrubs with our friends from Washington Native Plant Society and Whatcom Million Trees Project at Bellingham's new favorite trailhead!
