Family/Community SPRING/SUMMER PLAYBOOK 2022 | BELLINGHAM PARKS & RECREATION 18 9 am to noon COMMUNIT Y WORK PARTIES The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program empowers our community to have the tools, knowledge, and skills to care for, restore, and protect Bellingham's parks, trails, and open spaces. www.cob.org/parkvolunteer Photo by Amy Brown Volunteering with the Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program is a wonderful way to get outside, give back, and help improve the health of our parks and commu- nity. Join us at one of our weekly events as we restore wildlife habitat, improve open spaces, plant native shrubs and trees, remove invasive species, make new friends, get some exercise, and have fun! We provide tools, gloves, and direction. Wear sturdy shoes, and layers appropriate for the weather and bring a water bottle and snack. Masks are optional at this time. All ages and abilities welcome. For more information and to register visit: VolunteerBellingham.org/need PARKS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM "The Earth is a fine place and worth fighting for." – Ernest Hemingway 9 am to noon APRIL 16 – Euclid Park We have lots of English Ivy to tackle in this hidden park along Lake Whatcom near the Geneva neighborhood. 23 – Earth Day at Fairhaven Park Come celebrate Earth Day with Parks, Public Works Natural Resources, and community partners! We'll be enhancing riparian habitat, pulling English Ivy & mulching. 30 – Big Rock Garden A bi-annual morning of sculpture cleaning and gardening in this unique city park with Friends of Big Rock Garden. Join us! MAY 7 – Samish Crest Trail This lovely pocket of nature in the Samish neighborhood needs some TLC. 14 – Maritime Heritage Park Come improve salmon habitat with us, NSEA, and WNPS in the heart of downtown Bellingham. 14 – Rock Hill Park This hidden park in the York Neighborhood needs some love! Join us to spruce up the pollinator garden. 9 am to noon 9 am to noon MAY… continued 21 – Memorial Park Join the Bellingham Rotary Club as we clean up the memorials and grounds in preparation for Memorial Day. 21 – Sehome Arboretum Come help save this stately forest from the English Ivy invasion, with WWU's Learning Environment Action Discovery (LEAD) student organization. JUNE 4 – Connelly Creek Nature Area (north) Join the Happy Valley Neighborhood as we help salmon and wildlife in this important nature area. 11 – Harriet Spanel Park Join the York Neighborhood in removing weeds, mulching and picking up litter to care for this awesome park! 18 – Railroad Trail at Vining and View Ridge Join Park Steward Richard in helping us remove invasive Himalayan Blackberry to restore this beloved trail. 25 – Cornwall Rose Garden Come help Park Steward Z care for this special rose garden at the peak of bloom in the heart of the Cornwall neighborhood.
