Receipt will have Zoom link and PW COST: $10 per device COORDINATORS: Rosa Caldwell / Kamalla Kaur Whitley MIN: 5 / MAX: 30 Our Sikh Neighbors: An Exploration of Sikh Music In this evening's presentation musicians, called Ragis, will share live Sikh music and talk about traditional and modern instruments. Ragis, Harjeet Singh and Bhai Sulakhan Singh, from the Lynden Sikh Temple Gurdwara will explore the Tabla (Indian drums) and the importance music has in Sikh history and religion. Sukhi Kaur, a local translator and presenter, will also join the discussion. Will include Q&A. DAY/DATE: Friday, April 30 TIME: 6:00-7:00 pm AGES: All ages welcome LOCATION: Online. Receipt will have Zoom link and PW COST: $10 per device COORDINATORS: Rosa Caldwell / Kamalla Kaur Whitley MIN: 5 / MAX: 30 Our Sikh Neighbors: Introduction to Sikhs and Sikhi The Sikh Faith is the 5th largest religion on earth but few in the West know much about it. In this hour presentation a local Sikh university student, Rose Kalur, will share basic informa- tion about Sikhs, their religion, and Sikhs in Whatcom County. Here are a few questions Rose will answer in this session: Where are Sikhs from? Why do Sikhs wear turbans? What are the basic beliefs and practices of the Sikh religion? How many Sikh Gurdwaras (temples) are there in Whatcom County? How can non-Sikhs experience Langar – vegetarian food made and served in Sikh community kitchens? What is April's Vaisakhi Day Celebration, and why should everyone attend (when public functions become safe again)? This session will also have a Q&A. FACILITY RENTALS Bellingham Parks & Recreation is now accepting reservations for limited outdoor spaces and special events, scheduled for June 1 and beyond! Details include: • Outdoor facility reservations are limited to reservable picnic shelters located throughout the park system. • Indoor facilities are not available until after Labor Day weekend, except for the barn at Woodstock Farm. • Depot Market Square will continue to host the Bellingham Farmer's Market. • Athletic fields and facilities are available for limited programming run by school districts and other youth sports programs. These programs follow strict state Department of Health guidelines and provide staffing and oversight for the activities. Applications for events open to the public, commercial events, runs and races, requests for open space, or beer gardens will require a separately executed contract, insurance, and a COVID safety plan that demonstrates compliance with state guidelines. Requests must be submitted at least 30 days in advance. Approval is dependent upon supporting information submitted with application, facility/park availability, peak public use, staff availability. Larger community events requiring street closures or additional requirements will be reviewed and processed at the City's Permit Center.
